Traditional lateral flow immunoassay technology has been commercially available for over 25 years. Market applications have been limited to yes or no threshold tests due to significant inherent variations within the system, such as humidity, ambient temperature, sample viscosity, and membrane variability.
 
Response Biomedical has developed a unique method to overcome the performance limitations of early generation tests relating to sensitivity, specificity and accuracy.
 
By introducing a strip of known antibodies (internal standard) that are impacted by the same conditions as the test antibodies, the ratio of a measurement of the two sets of antibodies effectively factors out the uncontrollable variability, thereby providing an accurate result. This approach is the essence of the RAMP^® technology.
 
Furthermore, by labeling the antibodies with fluorescent latex particles and measuring them with a scanning fluorescence reader, a highly sensitive measurement is achieved.
