Dr. Richard Bastiani, Chairman
Dr. Richard Bastiani, former Chairman of ID Biomedical, has an impressive track record in the life sciences industry with considerable operational expertise in developing and commercializing innovative technology, and building successful businesses. Dr. Bastiani has served on the board of Abaxis Inc, which specializes in point–of–care diagnostics, since September 1995. He is a director and co–founder of DiscoverRx, which is focused on high–throughput screening and proteomics products for pharmaceutical drug discovery. Previously, Dr. Bastiani was President of Dendreon, a biotechnology company developing cell–based therapies for treatment of cancer, until September 1999. For approximately 25 years, Dr. Bastiani held a number of positions, including President, of Syva Company in Palo Alto, California.
Richard Bear
Mr. Richard Bear was the Chief Financial Officer of ID Biomedical. Prior to joining ID Biomedical in June, 2002, Mr. Bear was Vice President/General Manager of the interactive division of XO Communications, Inc. where he also held the position of Vice President of Finance. Prior to XO Communications, Mr. Bear was the Director of Finance for AT&T Wireless. During his nine years at AT&T wireless, Mr. Bear held various financial management positions. Mr. Bear received his degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Dr. Anthony Holler
Dr. Anthony F. Holler was one of the original founders of ID Biomedical and was a member of its Board of Directors since inception. Dr. Holler held a number of executive positions with ID Biomedical including President and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Holler also serves as Chairman of the Board of CRH Medical Corporation. Prior to founding ID Biomedical, Dr. Holler served as an emergency physician at University Hospital at the University of British Columbia. He is a member of the British Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.
S. Wayne Kay
Mr. Kay has more than 25 years of medical devices/biotechnology experience that he brings to the table as Chief Executive Officer of Response Biomedical Corporation. He is a former President, CEO and Director of Quidel Corporation, a leading global company in the discovery, development, manufacturing and marketing of rapid diagnostic solutions at the point-of-care (POC) in infectious diseases and reproductive health. During his tenure he designed and managed a strategy responsible for building and sustaining unprecedented market leadership of rapid influenza testing (from an approximately 2 percent to 49 percent market share). He was also responsible for significantly improving the financial performance of the company during his tenure. Since leaving Quidel in 2004, Mr. Kay served as an executive advisor to the management and boards of several early stage companies, mainly in the San Francisco Bay and San Diego areas. He also served as an executive advisor to one the US's most successful healthcare/life sciences blue chip venture capital funds, Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers.
Todd Patrick
Mr. Todd Patrick joined ID Biomedical in 1994 as the President of its then newly–created vaccine subsidiary, ID Vaccine. At that time, the parent company, ID Biomedical, was spending almost all of its resources on diagnostic product development and had a market capitalization of approximately $50 million. In 1999, Mr. Patrick was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of ID Biomedical and with Dr. Holler, was charged with building the company’s capabilities in vaccine development. Prior to joining ID Biomedical, Mr. Patrick was employed by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) as the Director of the Office of Intellectual Property Administration, where he was responsible for the patenting and licensing of intellectual property arising out of UCLA.
Dr. Peter Thompson
Dr. Thompson is a proven biotechnology executive and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in the industry. He co-founded Trubion Pharmaceuticals, and served as CEO and Chairman from its inception through its successful IPO on NASDAQ and as a public company until his retirement in 2009. Dr. Thompson is the former Vice President & General Manager of Chiron Informatics at Chiron Corporation and held various executive positions in Becton Dickinson, including Vice President, Research and Technology Department of BD Bioscience, prior to joining Chiron. Dr. Thompson is a co-founder of iMetrikus, a clinical decision support company, where he served as CEO and Chairman. He is the founder and Managing Director of Strategicon Partners, an investment and management services company. He serves as a Director of CoDa Therapeutics. Dr. Thompson is an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awardee, an inventor on numerous patents, a board-certified internist and oncologist, and was on staff at the National Cancer Institute following his internal medicine training at Yale University.
Dr. Jonathan Wang
Dr. Jonathan Wang is a Senior Managing Director, Asia at OrbiMed. He is a co-founder and partner at OrbiMed's Asia-focused VC fund. Previously, he was General Manager at Burrill Greater China Group and worked for WI Harper Group and Walden International, two pioneers in the Asia-related VC industry. At WI Harper, Dr. Wang was a Managing Director, overseeing the firm's life sciences activities worldwide. Dr. Wang is a Board Director at ForteBio, Inc., Response Biomedical Corporation, EA, Inc. and PharmAbcine, Inc. He is also co-founder and former Chairman of The BayHelix Group, a premier organization of Chinese life sciences business leaders. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Neurobiology from Columbia University where he obtained scientific training under the supervision of Dr. Eric Kandel, a Nobel Laureate. Dr. Wang also earned an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
